I'm a noob. Are you?

by Ryan Sims 59 Comments

So, we’re making t-shirts that say “I’m a noob." on them. We think some of you out there might be willing to throw down an Andrew Jackson for one, too. The problem is we don’t really know how to do this whole “T-shirt selling" thing (even though everyone else on the internet does) and we don’t have a ton of cash to burn through on things that could just sit around our office for the next 5 years.

view a little bigger version

Since we don't have any printed up yet, here's a brief description: They will be white text, in the same font as The Big Noob logo, printed on Lapis American Apparel 2001 Fine Jersey short sleeve tees. On the back, we will print The Big Noob logo really small up near the the neck in white. You know, so you can remember where you got it. We will sell these for $18-20 + shipping. So, if this is something that might interest you, would you mind letting us know by filling out this form? Please don't leave your info as a comment to this post and please only respond if you are seriously considering ordering one. Thank you so much.

We plan on printing these babies up very soon. FYI: the only reason we are asking for your email addy is so that we can email you once the shirts are available. This is NOT a pre-order. The shirts will be first come, first serve, however, if you fill this form out you will be given advance notice and the opportunity to order before we go live with them.

Will the Big Noob apparel ship down under? :)

Perfect timing, my closet has been dying for some new additions!

Ryan and I just hashed out an idea for a special 'kit' that we'd like to include when your tee ships. If we can make the idea work, we think you'll likey.

17 May 07 at 5:35pm

* What Hamish asked *

Please, please, please do international shipping!

Dearest International men (and women) of mystery-

While int'l shipping might not be as cheap as our domestic option, we'll make sure to include an option just for you.

Maybe I'll just travel to you and deliver the shirts by hand. I need to get out and see the world. :)

17 May 07 at 6:02pm

Brad. You've not seen the world until you touch the shores of our dear little country (nz). What, with sheep outnumbering people 10 to 1, erupting volcanoes, and hobbits everywhere, there's so much to see and take in…

Hamish

17 May 07 at 6:42pm

Stay away from NZ, who needs it when you have Australia :P Nah NZ is a nice place. I am definately gonna get me one of these!

Karl

17 May 07 at 8:23pm

Mmm. Hobbits.

Sorry for being critical but that is one of the gayest shirts I've seen.. you couldn't pay me to wear that.. Surely you can design a better t-shirt =0

Matt

17 May 07 at 9:50pm

I agree with Matt. The color isn't appealing, nor does it match the website that much. AA's "Baby Blue" would sell more and be more likely worn by a wider variety of people.

17 May 07 at 10:17pm

I don't know how to sell teeshirts either. If I figure it out, I'll let you guys know.

Word…. and good luck! :-D

Pam

17 May 07 at 10:49pm

Unlike Matt and james, I'm looking forward to adding a new shirt to my closet. My Cork'd and Daring Fireball tees need a friend.

Intrigued by Brad's mention of a special 'kit'. Any hints?

17 May 07 at 10:55pm

To the NZ & Aussie gentlemen… Not trying to ride the fence here, but I cannot wait for the chance to travel to BOTH! Honestly. Beautiful, beautiful places. Got somewhere I can crash when I'm there??? :) Oooh, and trixie hobbiteses to boot.

To Mr. Dielman... Soon. Soon. Mi promisio.

17 May 07 at 11:28pm

Great idea Brad!

Gives me a chance to show you the beautifull surroundings of Monster, the Hague (Netherlands)…

O, and when will the new noobish underwear collection be ready for shipping? :)

Have you looked into cafepress? You don't make much of a profit, but they do it all for you and it's a quality product. All you do is open a shop for free and upload your design…

I had another thought… I 'd much rather wear a VIRBº t-shirt… And better yet, why not have a contest to see who can design the best t-shirt for VIRBº and then see how many you sell…

allisonberryart

18 May 07 at 1:34am

I am a fat slob and am literally a big noob. If you make a 2XL, I'd be in. Also, I'd promote Virb in t-shirt form as well.

Jim Renaud

Simmy is that a Damien Hirst button you are sporting in the banner image? If so I bought the same button at the Tate in London.

Jim Renaud

18 May 07 at 6:10am

My first thought was that the shirt design would have the speech bubble in it. I'd would much rather pay $18-$20 + s/h for a design like that rather then a shirt with just text on it. Also … make a couple XXL for the fat kids.

Thommy Browne

18 May 07 at 8:17am

I agree with Thommy Browne that the shirt would be a lot more appealing with the speech bubble. I like the thought of "I'm a noob" in the green bubble more than just text on a plan background.

Just my two cents in a world where pennies are obsolete.

(PS- We should get a Virb field trip going to AU/NZ.)

Goodstorm.com – way better (and cheaper) than cafepress – you keep in upwards of 70% on most sales.

Jeromy Darling

18 May 07 at 8:55am

Sah-weet!

Talking of shops, I head Ryan made a nice one over at PV?

Also, are the Tejas Ts going on sale? Brad said he had some, but then brought his own latex gloves and started cleaning like a magical pixie…

Ross Chapman

18 May 07 at 9:48am

I'm with Keegan… And that should be the one with the bubble.

Jess Brown

Heard. I meant heard. Dang…

Ross Chapman

18 May 07 at 10:37am

Yeah, for some reason I feel the design is lacking in some way – it just isn't conveying your nerdiness enough. I would like to see the comment bubble on there. I love the noob and I'd rawk a tee, if it communicates well. I'd hate to have explain what the noob is a hundred times.

But when you get that t-shirt thing figured out, would ya mind doing a post? I'd really like to know.

Mrad

18 May 07 at 11:09am

Just wanted to let all our husky friends know that I added XXL to the form. So please, add thyself to the list.

18 May 07 at 1:13pm

American Apparel rocks my world. I look forward to advertising my noobiness with pride.

What's with all the critics? It's the t-shirt model isn't it, that's what this is about. I asked the noobs if we could wait until I hit the gym a few times before we did the photo-shoot but they said no. Brad said it had to be done this week (some nonsense about ocean tides, the planet mars, and his horoscope).

We wouldn't even be having this discussion if they had used the female models from the pure volume store instead of the GQ shot of me with hands on hips. Anyways.. the noob tee is flippin sweet as is.

Nick

20 May 07 at 8:21pm

@brad : A place to stay in Australia? Theres a caravan down the road…i could always chuck some police tape around it and keep the kids away.

As for the virb shirts, virb shirts would be great but i think having a shirt design submission for virb could be dangerous, i am sure it would be flooded with myspace jokes and the like. Simple virb logo on the front in different colours used for the several different homepage toolbars would be great.

I agree with Nick on the female models thing, shirts would look 2x better but i think the designs great. I guess the only thing i would suggest is adding the green speech bubble to it, maybe the little green speech bubble with the n inside. Just to seperate it from "i am a noob" and make it "i am a (big) noob".

Looks good. I'll wear one but I agree that it should be the word bubble, maybe in white with the text knocked out. Ahh, who cares, I'd wear it regardless of what you do.

@Ryan

http://stickerobot.com/

We're doing some stickers with them as we speak. Can't comment on quality as we don't have the final product yet, but we chose them due to numerous recommendations.

(Saw the request for a sticker manufacturer in the RSS feed, but I don't see it on the actual post. Anyway, here you go!)

@Mike

I had a client go through StickerRobot for some pretty complex 4-color stickers with die-cut and are pretty happy with the results.

They're nice material quality too – durable.

This is a promise – if you get a XXXL, I will buy it! I dont know how much control you have over the sizes you sell but I just looked at the real-time stock chart and you have WAY more mediums on stock than XXL….that tells me ppl are buying the larger sizes – Im a big guy and I need something thatll fit me after it shrinks….

Nothing is as sexy as a naked noob. Maybe a cute teen noob getting her glans overly stimulated until she cries with confusion, as she forgotten the camera is still recording. mastibate in public until you are oblivious to your surroundings. Then… only then, can you really wear the T-Shirt. but hey once a noob…
