Call + Response

Did you know that there are more slaves today than ever before in human history? Last night I saw an eye-opening documentary called Call + Response. I had no idea that human trafficking was such a widespread crime (even here in the US!). There are some great musical performances by Cold War Kids, Moby, Switchfoot, and Five for Fighting in the film too. Watch the trailer, then buy tickets if it's playing in your city.

Now that sucks and it seems to be a common trend: Every time you guys post a cool indie-type flick the nearest showing is in DC which is waaay too far from me. Oh well, I'll wait what, maybe 3 months and get in my Netflix queue….

If you liked Call+Response, you should watch the movie "Human Trafficking" …it was made like a true hollywood action/drama and is based on true events… I loved Call+Response, but I feel like it didn't really spend enough time on the individual stories of the slaves, which is where compassion and action really start to kick in – when you grow emotionally attached to the victims.

Ditto on the 'thanks'.

I wasn't aware about slavery being an issue at all until we started working with Ben over at Change. They're working on an entire sub site devoted to the problem and should be up soon.

Slavery is the systematic exploitation of labor. As a social-economic system, slavery is a legal or informal institution under which a person (called "a slave") is compelled to work for another (sometimes called "the master" or "slave owner").

I'm glad that there are more people putting attention on this. I wish they would make another one, but focus on human trafficking in America.

It is interesting the fact that if in the past people become slaves againts their will but today we want to be a slave :) Yes we always can tell that we get salary, i.e. our work is payed… but in a fact… work of slave was payed too… even it was just a food… And right now we must be strong "slave"… because world finance crysis is force to be like a slave…
