Bustin' mad bytes with the (mt)

by Brad Smith 18 Comments

There have been a few exciting occurrences taking place behind these scenes of the 'ole Noob this week. First off, if you haven't already noticed, Simmy and I have (finally) placed the order for the Noob T-shirts. Our friends at Big Cartel are even hooking us up with a sexy little storefront. Everything is falling into place, so these bad boys will be on sale very soon. Simmy has another t-shirt in the works, too. More on that when he's ready for the big reveal.

We are most excited to announce that we've officially shacked up at the (mt) Media Temple hizzouse. We've hosted The Big Noob there since the site's resurrection in May, but the amount of traffic that flows through the Noob has kept things running a bit sluggish. As of late last night, that problem is no more. I have completed the migration to our very own (dv) Dedicated-Virtual Server; and my-oh-my, it is quite zippy to say the least. Thanks (mt)!! We are forever thankful for your blessings of bits and bytes.

Finally, back on the topic of tees... We've decided to toss a few goodies in with every order. Simmy and I aren't letting this out of the bag until you see it, but WOW - we think you will be quite pleased and/or amused. The Media Temple gang has also sent over some swag to share. Booyah.

All in all, it's a great Friday for noobs everywhere! Now I just need to figure out how to get this Sharpie-art removed from my hands before the weekend.

Awesome. Simply awesome.

By the way, who did the Sharpie-art? Quite a steady hand I must say.

The handywork of Mr. Sims, of course.

If everything Ryan designed didn't turn to platinum, I would say he missed his calling. Steady hands that man has.

And your rocking the spanking new time piece.

So is VIRB running on a dedicated (mt) server or just this blog?

I'm pretty sure VIRB has it's own dedicated datacenter of servers – not just one – so I would say just this blog.

I'm excited about the move, it is definitely noticeable! nice work!

Rubbing alcohol usually will do the trick, but like others have touched on, the preciseness of the work with the sharpie is right on point, so I say leave it, call up MT see if they are interested in a deal for you to walk around sporting their logo for a week or so before it finally either wears off or is soaked into your blood…

side note: As I was writing this comment, it totally had live spell check going on..

That is awesome!

Wow, I really thought that the logo was Photoshopped in. I can't believe anyone can draw that accurately. That's astounding.

@Josh

Good point. However, I hardly ever see tattoos drawn across both hands (at least not the same tattoo, and not evenly).

I'll defiantly be getting one, I tried to find out about getting some Virb / PV shirts too today as I'm lacking in neat T-Shirts lets say that was an interesting convo :-P I'll have to ask in the office tomorrow.

As for the people asking about the Virb Server Matt Johnson was right there's many many many servers that go into it all and stuff. The Big Noob is hosted with MT (as per the topic post)

So prior to the dedicated were you just using their grid-server?

Cheers Karl

AWESOME!, Can't wait to get one. I think I'll be the only one wearing one in Paraguay. HEY!, maybe we can hold a "display your noobiness from around the world" gallery!.

Just tell me where and when should I enter my Mastercard :)

Media Temple are not exactly my favorite hosting company. I am on the gs and it is a load of crap… My sites go down at least twice a day if I'm lucky, maybe they should spend less on marketing, giving away free hosting packages and improve their service

@Keith- I'd definitely look into that. I spent over a year on the (gs) platform and, yes, I was a paying customer. I had very few hiccups over the 14 month period. Don't simply assume that this is life with (mt). I'd check in with them.

thanks for the reply Brad. I actually brought this up with them before and they said they were going through some maintenance, well 6 months on and it looks their "maintenance" is still ongoing. I actually really like their control panel/ features and customer support, but I must be in the minority when it comes to the getting good hosting off them.

I'm gonna get that "I'm tall, dark, and fantastic in the morning" t-shirt first. I rock that into a busy Starbucks and the ladies will come a running! -

I cant wait for you guys to get some more designs on Cottyn.com.
