WANT.

Ouch, I was going to get one until I read that. I'm a current AT&T customer with a regular phone, and my contract is not eligible for an upgrade (I'm a year in). Thus, I the iPhone is not $199 for me. When Steve jobs announced the new price, he didn't say there was a HUGE asterisk with it. And $70 bucks for no texting and 400 lousy minutes? I'm out.

WANT.

Eh, the 3G isn't too mind-blowing for me. Don't get me wrong – it's fantastic for folks that don't already have one, and it's still a significant upgrade. But I'll be sticking with my trusty 'ol original iPhone for the foreseeable future.

yeah, I was gonna upgrade until I saw that. Pretty lame, I'll keep my old one.

Pretty lame way to screw over existing customers. So Apple effectively lied about the pricing. Backlash coming soon?

@ Eric – 400 minutes, no texting? They're definitely making the difference back on the ungodly-priced phone plans they have…..

I'm on t-mobile… i wonder a) how i will even get a phone without having to sign up for a plan, and b) how long it will take for a script to unlock the phone arises.

I will not give in to this monopoly nonsense!

Actually, unless i'm overtired from the long ass day i've had (which included a ride down to Boston to visit you guys, thanks again) and i'm not reading something correctly, i may be fine afterall… read this

I really wanted the phone, but at&t is once again screwing over its current customers with this deal. If you are not due for an upgrade now, you must pay $400 for the phone, $18 upgrade fee, and sign a new 2 year contract. What is not fair is that someone who was not dedicated or had a relationship with at&t before can just walk in the store and get the phone for $200 and a new contract.

What does that say about at&t? they don't care about making their current customers happy, and are only interested in attracting new people with a phone that has an over-priced plan.

Want. Will by regardless.

WANT. Yet, if I had to place any blame, it wouldn't be on Apple. Just wait it out and see, peoples. Many of us flipped out over the original iPhone pricing and look where we are today. The universe is pretty good at course correcting, as is Apple.

Now, it says customers who bought an iPhone before July 11th are eligible for the upgrade price. Is that July 11th, 2008 or 2007?

A friend just informed me that he contacted a sales rep and requested an "early upgrade".

And if the recent Netflix/Profile debacle taught us anything it's that if enough people complain the company just might listen.

But perhaps it's the American "WANT" that AT&T is banking on :)

Apple has confirmed that customers who currently own the iPhone 1.0 are eligible upgrade price. Boooyah!

What if you had it but sold it?

Well if thats the case Alex then I think you are SOL – and I'm not talking about Standards of Learning…..

if you sell it and it isn't your current phone you are using you are not eligible. check your online account to see your upgrade eligibility.
